The name combines "Chat" to indicate a computer interface for human interaction, and "GPT-4" as an abbreviation for "generative pre-trained transformer 4." The pricing for GPT-4 is based on "prompt" and "completion" tokens, with a cost of $0.03 per 1,000 prompt tokens (about 750 words) and $0.06 per 1,000 completion tokens (also about 750 words). Prompt tokens are the initial parts of words fed into GPT-4, while completion tokens represent the content generated by the system.

GPT-4 can generate text and caption and interpret images with relative complexity. OpenAI worked with Microsoft to develop a "supercomputer" from the ground up in the Azure cloud, which was used to train GPT-4. One of the more significant improvements in GPT-4 is its navigational tools, which allows developers to prescribe style and task by describing specific directions, essentially setting the tone and establishing boundaries for the AI's next interactions.
